Why is Muhyiddin Yassin not the Parliamentary Opposition Leader?

Why is Muhyddin Yassin not the Parliamentary Opposition Leader?

Is he retiring from politics?

The answer is “No” as he has not given up the opportunity to become Prime Minister once again and that is why he is not vacating his position as President of Bersatu and Chairman of Perikatan Nasional to give way to someone else to lead both political organisations.

There are at least three reasons why Muhyiddin does not want to become the Parliamentary Opposition Leader — he does not want to be confronted especially in Parliament on three issues, namely:

  • As the first backdoor Prime Minister in Malaysia who dared not test his legitimacy with a vote of confidence in Parliament.
  • Illegitimate, illegal and unconstitutional suspension of Parliament.
  • His abysmal failure to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic causing Malaysia to have the longest Covid-19 wave in the world.

No other country in the world has illegally and unconstitutionally suspended Parliament to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, and what was worse, his abysmal failure to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

When Muhyiddin suspended Parliament and declared emergency on January 11, 2021 to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, there were 138,224 Covid-19 cases and 555 Covid-19 deaths.

Six months later, when Muhyiddin resigned and Emergency ended, there were over 10 times more Covid-19 cases and 24 times the Covid-19 deaths to reach nearly 1.5 million Covid-19 cases and over 13,000 Covid-19 deaths.

For the National Day month of August, 2020, Malaysia had 364 Covid-19 cases and two Covid-19 deaths. For the National Day month of August 2021, Malaysia had more than 630,000 Covid-19 cases and more than 7,400 deaths — an exponential increase of 17,000 times for the number of Covid-19 cases and more than, 3,700 times the Covid-19 deaths?

Can any other political leader do worse?

This is why when Muhyidddin urged the government to take immediate action to ensure the people are protected from the new Covid-19 variant which has been detected in several countries, the point is valid but the question that immediately arises is whether Muyhiddin is the last person qualified to talk about the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to 15th general election results, the Parliamentary Opposition Leader should be PAS President, Hadi Awang, as PAS won 43 and Bersatu won 31 parliamentary seats.

However Hadi wanted to use Perikatan Nasional as a cover for his toxic politics of lies, fear, hate, race and religion to polarise Malaysia like his attacks on the DAP as anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist and promoting Islamophobia.

Does Muhyiddin agree?

If so, why did Muhyiddin approach me in 2016 to ask for DAP support for him to be the Prime Minister?

If I had agreed, is the DAP not anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist and promoting Islamophobia?

Just because I declined to give him a positive answer, as the DAP was committed to naming Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister-designate, does the DAP become anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist and promoting Islamophobia?

The same applied to Hadi.

In 2013, Hadi and his lieutenants met me to argue that Anwar Ibrahim was not appropriate to be Pakatan Rakyat’s Prime Minister-designate and suggested Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

When I declined to agree, stating that the DAP would abide by our commitment to Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister-designate of Malaysia, and failed to suggest that the PM-designate should be Hadi himself, had the DAP suddenly become anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist and promoting Islamophobia?

Let Muhyiddin declare whether he agrees with Hadi that the DAP is anti-Malay, anti-Islam, communist and promoting Islamophobia and cite evidence to substantiate such allegations.

There is another matter which Muhyiddin has to clarify, why he is so against a reset to return to the original nation-building principles supported by the first four UMNO Presidents six decades ago as he allowed into his Cabinet Ministers who do not accept these original nation-building principles as spelt out in the Malaysian Constitution and Rukun Negara.
