The “court cluster” in UMNO are the only ones who want 15GE to be held during monsoon and floods disaster even if they cost greater damage than last year which suffered RM6.5 billion property losses and sacrificie of 54 human lives
UMNO President, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has claimed that the floods are a “narrative and myth” spun by the opposition to avoid the 15th general election (GE15) from being held soon as the coalition has lost Malay support.
The “court cluster” in UMNO, represented by Zahid, are the only ones In the country who want the 15th General Election to be held during the monsoon and floods disaster even if they cost greater damage than last year which suffered RM6.5 million property losses and sacrifice of 54 human lives.
This is why the Bersatu Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Mustapha Mohamed has grave reservations about holding the 15GE during the monsoon and floods season for two reasons:
1. The present focus should be on minimising damage that could be caused by monsoon and floods season and economic recovery rather than on politics;
2. RM2 billion would be needed if parliamentary and state elections are held separately.
The PAS Environment and Water Minister Ibrahim Tuan Man said it is not suitable to hold the 15th general election this year as heavy rains and floods are expected to occur in mid-November.
Why doesn’t Zahid blame Bersatu, PAS and the UMNO Ministers who do not belong to the UMNO “court cluster” who do not want the 15GE to be held during the monsoon and floods season for very valid grounds?
The only reason for holding the 15GE in disregard of the monsoon and floods season is the belief of the UMNO “court cluster” that this is the route for leaders of the UMNO “court cluster” to escaped jail for corruption charges.
This is selfish personal interests and definitely not in the national interests.
I have said that if the Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri is so irresponsible as to seek the consent of the Yang di Pertuan Agong for the dissolution of Parliament after the presentation of the 2023 Budget on Oct. 7, 2022, the Yang di Pertuan Agong will have two solid grounds to decline to give his consent, viz:
1. Parliament should not be made an object of mockery or political games, let alone trifle with the 2023 Budget, but be allowed to debate and pass the 2023 Budget unless there is a vote of no confidence in Parliament on the Prime Minister and it is not possible to find a person to be Prime Minister; and
2. The monsoon and floods disasters, which cost 54 lives and loss of RM6.5 billion of property, public and personal, last year.
This is a test as to whether the ninth Prime Minister of Malaysia put the national interests above party and self interests.
