Upholding press freedom should be one of the KPIs of the Minister for Communications and Multimedia and Annuar Musa should intervene to resolve the two press freedom cases of the NST and the Edge.

The Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri has guaranteed press freedom in Malaysia and Annuar must implement this guarantee in both cases.

The Attorney-General Idris Harun should withdraw the criminal defamation charge against former chief editor of the Edge, Azam Aris as the alleged offence cannot be construed to be against public order and morality.

The aggrieved party could instead initiate a defamation suit and attempt to get a remedy.

The AG, as public prosecutor, has the power to withdraw the charge and should do so at the earliest possible time.

The Minister should also intervene in the NST case to ensure that the NST group editor, Ahmad Lokman Mansor is not removed from his current post as he should advise all political parties to move ahead with the times and to accept press freedom in the country.
