During his audience with the Yang di Pertuan Agong, the Prime Minister should not raise the subject of dissolution of Parliament unless he has secured Cabinet approval for dissolution especially as Ministers of his coalition Cabinet have publicly declared their opposition.
This would be in accordance with the provisions in the Malaysian Constitution.
Ismail’s position that the Prime Minister may decide on his own without reference to his Cabinet whether Parliament should be dissolved is not strictly correct, especially as Malaysia is in the era of coalition politics and the days of the political hegemony of one political party are over.
Ismail Sabri should lead the country into the new political era of coalition politics, and not act like a political dinosaur oblivious to the political changes happening around him.
