Unity Government agreement signed yesterday will not only ensure Anwar unity government can last five years and political stability for the country, it is the basis for Malaysia to stop its national decline and to become a world-class nation again before Malaysia’s Centennial
I congratulate the Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim for the unity government agreement signed by political coalitions, political parties and individual MPs, as it will not only ensure that the Anwar unity government can last five years and political stability for the country, it is the basis for Malaysia to stop its national decline and to become a world-class nation again before Malaysia’s Centennial.
It will provide a reset for nation-building policies and a return to the nation-building principles as advocated by the first four UMNO Presidents and nation’s founding fathers like Onn Jaafar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Razak Hussein, Hussein Onn, Tan Cheng Lock, Tan Siew Sin, Dr. Lim Chong Eu, and V.T. Sambanthan and enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution and the Rukun Negara — constitutional monarchy, parliamentary democracy, separation of powers, Islam as the official religion of the country, the rule of law, good governance, public integrity, meritocracy, respect for human rights, an end to the various injustices and inequalities in the country and the flowering of the various languages, religions and cultures in a multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural Malaysia.
Let the unity government agreement be an inspiration for every patriotic Malaysian, every political coalition and every political party, inside and outside Parliament, to work with one common mission and purpose — to make Malaysia great again and to fulfil the aspiration of Bapa Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman for Malaysia to be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”.
This is work not of one Prime Minister or in one general election as it must be the mission of many Prime Ministers and many general elections, as it must be the Malaysian Dream of every Malaysian for the next three to four decades.
But let Malaysia start now under the leadership of the country’s 10th Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim.to begin the long process to make Malaysia great again.
Let Malaysians surprise the world that Malaysia is capable of anther “political miracle”, not only to start the new era of coalition politics on a right footing and fulfil Tunku Abdul Rahman’s aspiration for Malaysia to be “a beacon of light in a difficult and distracted world”, but for Malaysia to be among the great world-class nations where there is minimal corruption, a tiger economy, world-class education standards, sustainable environment and Malaysia a show-case to the world as the confluence of four great civilisations — Malay/Islamic, Chinese, Indian, and Western.
We have a lot of work to do.
I fully agree with the Conference of Rulers that the Judicial Appointments Committee (JAC) should be free of influence from the Prime Minister and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) has initiated the first step to separate the public prosecutor’s office from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
The Anwar unity government has been marred by the Batang landslide tragedy, with 21 confirmed deaths so far and 12 people missing.
It should be an occasion for the government to study the call by Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the worst landslide disaster in Batang Kali as well as the larger question of risks arising from climate change.
