Challenge to DAP and PH to do better in the state general election next year than the 15th Parliamentary general election
I am happy to be here tonight for quadruple celebrations:
Firstly, to Ramkarpal Singh for his stunning 63,112 vote-majority and re-election as the MP for Bukit Gelugor.
Secondly, again to Ramkarpal Singh for being appointed the Deputy Minister for Law in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Thirdly, for Lim Hui Ying, who is with us tonight, for her appointment as Deputy Education Minister.
Law and educational reforms are important subjects if we are to stop the national decline in the last six decades and regain our position as a first-rate world-class nation.
There is a fourth reason for celebration tonight: I congratulate Penang DAP for the great victories in the 15th General Election where four of the seven DAP-Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates won their seats with all their opposing candidates losing their deposits. The four candidates with the margin of victory are
- Tanjong — Lim Hui Ying — 84.8% of the voter turnout.
- Bukit Gelugor — Ramkarpal Singh — 82.7% of the vote.
- Bagan — Lim Guan Eng — 81.3% of the vote.
- Bukit Bendera — Syerleena Abdul Rashid — 78.9% of the vote.
While celebration is in order tonight, I must remind all DAP and PH leaders, members and supporters that the new political struggle to make Malaysia great again has only started.
The Penang state general election will be held next year, and I challenge DAP and PH to do better in the Penang state polls next year.
