Call on AG Tommy Thomas to call up the papers to drop the prosecution’s cross-appeal to reinstate Haris Ibrahim’s jail sentence on his sedition conviction so that Haris will not become become a second Wan Ji
The Attorney-General Tommy Thomas should call up the papers and drop the prosecution’s cross-appeal to reinstate a jail sentence against Haris Ibrahim to ensure that Haris will not become a second Wan Ji.
Pakatan Harapan had made a specific Promise 27 in the 14th General Election to revoke the Sedition Act 1948 among other oppressive laws, and unless and until this promise is fulfilled by legislation in Parliament, the Attorney-General should review all sedition cases pending before the courts.
Haris' appeal to quash a Kuala Lumpur High Court ruling which substituted Haris' eight-month jail sentence for sedition with a RM4,000 fine is set for hearing by the Court of Appeal on August 26.
