Will IGP Khalid say that he does not rule out arrest of Najib for receiving foreign funding, like Maria Chin?
The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has said that he has not ruled out the possibility of Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah being re-arrested.
The thought that immediately struck me was whether Khalid would ever say that he does not rule out the possibility of arresting Datuk Seri Najib Razak for receiving foreign funding, as being alleged against Maria Chin.
The answer is of course a clear-cut and categorical “No”.
Can Khalid answer why he would never make such a statement about Najib when he had no problem making it against Maria Chin?
Especially when Najib had himself claimed that the RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal banking accounts were from foreign sources?
Had the Police ever questioned Najib about the “foreign funding” of RM2.6 billion in Najib’s personal banking accounts, what has happened to these funds, and Najib’s claim that he had subsequently returned RM2.03 billion to the “foreign donors”?
I am not suggesting that Najib should be questioned or detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, as is the case of Maria Chin, but had the police ever investigated Najib on the issue?
Najib’s claims of RM2.6 billion “foreign funding” in his personal banking accounts and the subsequent “return” of RM2.03 billion had been disputed by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in its lawsuit to forfeit over US$1 billion 1MDB-linked assets in the United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland as a result of US$3 billion international conspiracy of embezzlement, misappropriation and money-laundering of 1MDB funds.
Did the Police carry out further investigations on Najib as a result of the US DOJ lawsuit disputing the Prime Minister’s claim that the RM2.6 billion in his personal banking accounts were from “foreign sources” and not part of the 1MDB international conspiracy of money-laundering, and if no, why not?
These are some of the questions milling in the minds of ordinary Malaysians when they read Khalid’s statement that Maria Chin’s re-arrest cannot be ruled out, which cry out for clarification from the powers-that-be.
