(Kajang, Wednesday): Twenty justice-loving Malaysians, including DAP leaders Ahmad Nor, Abdul Muluk Daud and Fan Yew Teng, social activists like Dr. Chandra Muzaffar, Irene Fernandez and Tian Chua have taken part by the seventh day of the 18-day "Free Guan Eng" Marathon Fast in Kajang from 10th Sept. - 27 Sept. 1998.

The 20 who have fasted are:

  12. Chan Siew Foong
  13. Chow Jin Yi
  14. Azahari Ismail
  15. Ahmad Ton
  16. Chandra Muzaffar
  17. Tian Chua
  18. Hew Kuan Yau

Seven women, namely Irene Fernandez, Yaw Kwang Mee, Sooi Lang Hiong, Foo Yueh Chuan, Wong Lin See, Chan Siew Foong and Chow Jin Yi had taken part in a 36-hour fast each, while Fan Yew Teng fasted for 72 hours.  Hew Kuan Yaw, DAP national assistant publicity secretary and editor of Chinese Rocket, has completed 36 hours of fast in a 108-hour fast to highlight nation-wide dismay, shock grief and outrage at the injustice of the Lim Guan Eng case.

Members of the public, who are outraged by the injustice of the Lim Guan Eng case, are welcome to take part in the 18-day "Free Guan Eng" Marathon Fast.  Several social activists are expected to join the 18-day Marathon Fast in the remaining 11 days.

The 18-day "Free Guan Eng" Marathon Fast are among the important programmes of the "Free Guan Eng" campaign, which includes the seven-night Candlelight Vigil for Justice outside Federal Court, Kuala Lumpur August 25-31, 1998; the nation-wide mass signature campaign appealing to the Yang di Pertuan Agong, with the first batch of 203,933 signatures  for the first 10 days of the campaign submitted to Istana Negara as well as "Free Guan Eng" dinners, ceramahs, forums, etc.
