(Petaling Jaya, Wednesday): The sacking of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister has completely nullified whatever positive effects of the currency controls measures  announced yesterday and plunged Malaysia into an unprecedented political crisis which would make economic turnaround and recovery even more distant and difficult.

On the fourteenth  month of the worsening economic crisis, the worst in the nations four-decade of history  with no light at the end of the tunnel, the sacking of Anwar is likely to precipitate a political crisis which would aggravate the worst economic crisis in the nations history.

Mahathir woes Malaysians as well as the world an immediate, convincing and overpowering justification for the sacking of Anwar as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister and if he is unable to do so, the country would be heading for the worst twin crises -  political and economic crises - in the nations history.

Under the circumstances, Malaysia might as well cancel the Sukom scheduled for Sept. 11 - 21, for clearly Malaysians have more weightier things to worry about than hosting the Commonwealth Games.
