Formation of Asean Inter-Parliamentary Caucus on Good Governance (AIPCGG) Preparatory Committee

, Saturday):  On the sidelines of the two-day Conference on Good Governance, Democracy and ASEAN organized by the AIPMC,  consensus was reached by the Parliamentarians from six ASEAN countries on the need and importance for the establishment of a second ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Caucus on Good Governance (AIPCGG).


Leading Parliamentarians from  Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Malaysia have formed a Preparatory Committee for the establishment of AIPCGG, viz:


Chairman:  Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (Minister in PM’s Department) – Malaysia

 Members:  Dr. Muhammad AS Hikam (Indonesia)

                   Senator Aquilino Q. Pimentel (Philippines)

                   Senator Kraisak Choonhaven (Thailand)

                   Charles Chong (Singapore)

                   Dr. Than Sina (Cambodia)

                   Lim Kit Siang (Malaysia)


The AIPCGG will provide ASEAN Parliamentarians  concerned about good governance issues of accountability, transparency, openness, integrity, justice,  democracy, human rights, the rule of law and  participation a forum to come together to promote good governance principles in ASEAN, whether in individual countries or the region as a whole.


The AIPCGG Preparatory Committee will draw up plans for the establishment of the second Inter-Parliamentary Parliamentary Caucus, including encouraging the formation of Parliamentary Caucus on Good Governance in each ASEAN country.
