Malaysiakini story on “AP scandal: 48-hr deadline for Kit Siang”
Media
Comment (Petaling Jaya, Wednesday): I refer to the Malaysiakini story today “AP scandal: 48-hr deadline for Kit Siang”. I have two observations, viz: Firstly, the novel idea had never occurred to me that if I cannot get information from any person, I can lodge a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to ask the agency to find out the answer. Life for Opposition politicians and investigative journalists would be very easy indeed if there is such a simple option. Even more remarkable, why the pioneer of such creative political expose had not dared to use such tactics against Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, reporting to the ACA if answers are not forthcoming from them on any question raised? Secondly, I would welcome a visit from ACA officials as I would like to know what has happened to the various ACA reports that I had lodged in the past, in particular in connection with the former MCA President Tun Dr. Ling Liong Sik and his son, Ling Hee Leong, as well as the outcome of ACA investigations into various scandals whether the APs scandal or the multi-million ringgit Osu Sukam gambling debts scandal. In my media statement early today, I had called on the government to make public all the APs issued to Ministers, Deputy Ministers and MPs. My position on the accountability and transparency of MPs on APs is clear. However, as a 48-hour ultimatum has been issued on the lodging of an ACA report, let the threat be carried out so that the Malaysian public can judge whether this is sheer mischief at work
