(Petaling Jaya, Wednesday): Today is a sad day for Malaysians, who had hoped not only
to see the righting of wrongs and the redressal of injustice for Anwar but firm
bold steps to restore public confidence in the rule of law and the independence
of the judiciary.
The unanimous Federal Court decision to dismiss former
deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal against conviction
and six-year jail sentence for corruption is not completely unexpected.
However, the sad message is that Malaysia has a long way to go to establish just rule of law and a truly independent judiciary.
