DAP endorses Zaitun Kassim as a candidate on DAP ticket for Selayang Parliamentary
seat to highlight women issues and causes

(Petaling Jaya, Monday): DAP Central
Executive Committee at its meeting in Petaling Jaya yesterday has endorsed
Zaitun Kassim, Vice President of the All Women’s Action Society (AWAM)
as a candidate on DAP ticket for Selayang Parliamentary seat to highlight
women issues and causes.
This is the first time that the DAP has endorsed a NGO leader, who is
not a DAP member, to be a candidate on the DAP ticket to maximise her
electoral chances in the coming general election.
The Barisan Alternative, in its Joint Manifesto "Towards A Just Malaysia"
is committed to the upliftment of the cause of women, pledging to:

Enforce strictly laws regarding the rights, interests and dignity
of women and abolish laws and regulations that discriminate against women;

Protect the rights and welfare of women who have been left by their husbands
without any reasonable support;

Continue payments of pensions for widows even after they remarry;

Provide creches within the community and also at places of work;
-
Introduce flexible working hours for working women;
-
Study the Women’s Agenda for Change in order to implement appropriate recommendations
therein.
Zaitun has pledged support for the Barisan Alternative Joint Manifesto
and she has committed to give full support to the DAP in Parliament if
she is elected on all DAP proposals and measures consistent with the Joint
Manifesto "Towards A Just Malaysia".
